Sarah Pyefinch was born in Pitlochry in Scotland in 1963 where she was educated, and in her final year at High School, she was in the top seven students in art in all of Scotland.

She chose to train as a riding instructor in Norfolk when she left school and qualified as a horse riding instructor at International level, working for Stephen Hadley and Raymond Brooks-Ward, both of whom worked for the BBC at the time. All this time, she continued to keep sketch books and drawing what was in front of her, mostly horses, dogs and chickens. It was her work with horses and the natural environment in which she worked, that inspired much of her art work.

She became self employed as an artist in 1991 and completed over 600 commissioned works before she died suddenly in 2007.
